Sonam Raghuvanshi and Her Aides Sent to 8-Day Police Custody

Sonam Raghuvanshi

Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main accused in the shocking Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, along with her associates, has been placed in police custody for eight days.

The decision comes as investigators dig deeper into the chilling incident that has caught national attention.

“Police had requested a 10-day remand for all the accused, but the court granted 8 days of custody,” said East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem, speaking to news agency PTI.

Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, was brought to Shillong around midnight on Tuesday. The other accused, who were picked up from Indore, arrived in Shillong on Wednesday under transit remand.

A senior officer revealed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) requested police custody of the accused to help reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra.

The SIT has been granted six days of custody for the suspects brought from Indore, and three days for the one arrested in Ghazipur, the officer added.

Raghuvanshi and his wife were reported missing on May 23 while vacationing in the Sohra area of Meghalaya. Tragically, his body was discovered in a deep gorge on June 2.

Brief History of the Case:

Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam, had traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon and were staying in the scenic Sohra area, also known as Cherrapunji, a popular tourist destination known for its waterfalls and natural beauty. On May 23, both were reported missing under suspicious circumstances, prompting local authorities to launch a search operation.

Nearly 10 days later, on June 2, Raghuvanshi’s body was found in a deep gorge in the area. The location where his body was recovered is known for its difficult terrain, which made the search operation particularly challenging. Initial forensic examinations suggested that he may have been pushed into the gorge, indicating foul play.

The discovery of his body intensified the investigation, leading to the arrest of his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, along with several aides. Authorities now suspect that the murder was premeditated and part of a larger conspiracy, which is currently being probed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
